The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The countries with the highest volumes of consumption in 2024 were Italy (138K tons), Germany (116K tons) and France (39K tons), with a combined 57% share of total consumption. Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Greece and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of consumption, amongst the main consuming countries, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +2.2%), while consumption for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($2.3B), Italy ($2.2B) and France ($526M) were the countries with the highest levels of market value in 2024, together accounting for 63% of the total market.

Among the main consuming countries, France, with a CAGR of +4.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of market size over the period under review, while market for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The countries with the highest levels of copper pipe and fitting per capita consumption in 2024 were Italy (2.3 kg per person), the Czech Republic (2.1 kg per person) and Germany (1.4 kg per person).

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, production reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The countries with the highest volumes of production in 2024 were Italy (171K tons), Germany (150K tons) and Greece (70K tons), together comprising 81% of total production. Spain, Austria, Poland and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 13%.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of production, amongst the leading producing countries, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +2.8%), while production for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2024, the amount of copper tubes, pipes and fitting imported in the European Union reduced sharply to 336K tons, declining by -18% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 21%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 479K tons. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, copper pipe and fitting imports fell dramatically to $4.6B in 2024. Total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2013 to 2024: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, imports decreased by -23.1% against 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 44%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $6B. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Italy (42K tons), Germany (40K tons), France (40K tons), Spain (33K tons), Poland (32K tons), the Netherlands (29K tons) and the Czech Republic (26K tons) represented roughly 72% of total imports in 2024. The following importers - Belgium (13K tons), Sweden (11K tons) and Portugal (11K tons) - together made up 10% of total imports.

From 2013 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +5.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($720M), France ($572M) and Italy ($495M) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2024, with a combined 39% share of total imports. Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Sweden and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

Spain, with a CAGR of +4.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tubes and pipes of refined copper (153K tons) and tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys (114K tons) prevails in imports structure, together generating 79% of total imports. Tubes and pipes of copper-zinc base alloys (brass) (25K tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 7.5% share, followed by tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of refined copper (6%) and tubes and pipes of copper alloys other than copper-zinc, cupro-nickel or nickel-silver (5.7%). Tubes and pipes of copper-nickel base alloys (cupro-nickel) or copper-nickel-zinc base alloys (nickel silver) (5.4K tons) held a little share of total imports.

From 2013 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys (with a CAGR of +1.8%), while purchases for the other products experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest types of imported copper tubes, pipes and fitting were tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys ($1.9B), tubes and pipes of refined copper ($1.7B) and tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of refined copper ($389M), with a combined 88% share of total imports.

In terms of the main imported products, tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys, with a CAGR of +2.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2024, the import price in the European Union amounted to $13,727 per ton, flattening at the previous year. Over the last eleven-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $13,849 per ton in 2023, and then declined slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major imported products. In 2024, the product with the highest price was tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of refined copper ($19,460 per ton), while the price for tubes and pipes of copper-zinc base alloys (brass) ($8,578 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The import price in the European Union stood at $13,727 per ton in 2024, approximately mirroring the previous year. Over the period from 2013 to 2024, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 18%. The level of import peaked at $13,849 per ton in 2023, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($17,836 per ton), while Spain ($10,564 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

For the third year in a row, the European Union recorded decline in overseas shipments of copper tubes, pipes and fitting, which decreased by -18.5% to 302K tons in 2024. Overall, exports saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 442K tons. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, copper pipe and fitting exports contracted sharply to $5.3B in 2024. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 39%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $6.6B. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

The biggest shipments were from Germany (75K tons), Italy (75K tons) and Greece (61K tons), together resulting at 70% of total export. Spain (17K tons) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 5.7% share, followed by Poland (5.1%) and Austria (4.9%). Finland (8.5K tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys (74K tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 24% share, followed by tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of refined copper (6.5%), tubes and pipes of copper-zinc base alloys (brass) (6.2%) and tubes and pipes of copper alloys other than copper-zinc, cupro-nickel or nickel-silver (6.2%). Tubes and pipes of copper-nickel base alloys (cupro-nickel) or copper-nickel-zinc base alloys (nickel silver) (4.9K tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports of tubes and pipes of refined copper decreased at an average annual rate of -2.4% from 2013 to 2024. At the same time, tubes and pipes of copper alloys other than copper-zinc, cupro-nickel or nickel-silver (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, tubes and pipes of copper alloys other than copper-zinc, cupro-nickel or nickel-silver emerged as the fastest-growing type exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of +1.1% from 2013-2024. Tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of refined copper experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys (-1.2%), tubes and pipes of copper-zinc base alloys (brass) (-5.5%) and tubes and pipes of copper-nickel base alloys (cupro-nickel) or copper-nickel-zinc base alloys (nickel silver) (-7.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys (+2.6 p.p.) and tubes and pipes of copper alloys other than copper-zinc, cupro-nickel or nickel-silver (+1.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while tubes and pipes of copper-zinc base alloys (brass) saw its share reduced by -2.9% from 2013 to 2024, respectively. The shares of the other products remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of copper alloys ($2B), tubes and pipes of refined copper ($2B) and tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of refined copper ($634M) constituted the products with the highest levels of exports in 2024, together accounting for 89% of total exports.

Tube or pipe fittings, couplings, elbows, sleeves of refined copper, with a CAGR of +3.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exported products over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the European Union stood at $17,488 per ton in 2024, increasing by 3.5% against the previous year. Export price indicated perceptible growth from 2013 to 2024: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, copper pipe and fitting export price increased by +79.0% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2024 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
